Buddha for worship
Buddha images, or statues of Buddha, originated as representations of the Buddha for worship. Their evolution is divided into different eras, from the past to the present. Their origins lie abroad, with the first creations occurring approximately 500 years after the Buddha’s passing. In the Gandhara region (present-day Pakistan and Afghanistan) and in the Mathura region, Greek-Indian fusion art was created as a symbol representing the Buddha, for future generations to worship, replacing the traditional symbols such as lotus flowers, Buddha footprints, or the Dharma wheel.

Ancient amulets (Phra Kru) are Buddhist amulets and sacred objects created by ancient people and placed in sacred places, such as inside stupas, beneath the base of the main Buddha statue, or in underground jars in various temples. Popular examples of ancient amulets include Phra Nang Phaya from Wat Nang Phaya, Phitsanulok Province; Phra Rod from Wat Mahawan, Lamphun Province; and Phra Phong Suphan from Suphan Buri Province.
